In South East Asia, East Africa and South Africa, the term “ Barzanji” is synonymous with the word “ Mawlid”, which is essentially a colourful celebration and spiritual display of deep love of the Prophet Muḥammad. Biasanya kitab Barzanji menjadi kitab induk peringatan maulîd Nabi Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, bahkan sebagian pembacanya lebih tekun membaca kitab Barzanji daripada membaca al-Qur’an.The work is highly revered and widely recited by Sunni Muslims around the world. Meskipun kitab Barzanji lebih populer di kalangan orang awam daripada yang lainnya, tetapi biasanya kitab Daiba’, Barzanji dan Qasidah Burdah dijadikan satu paket untuk meramaikan maulid Nabi Shallallahu alaihi wa sallam yang diawali dengan membaca Daiba’, lalu Barzanji, kemudian ditutup dengan Qasîdah Burdah.

Secara umum peringatan maulid Nabi Shallallahu alaihi wa sallam selalu disemarakkan dengan shalawatan dan puji-pujian kepada Rasulullah Shallallahu alaihi wa sallam, yang mereka ambil dari kitab Barzanji maupun Daiba’, ada kalanya ditambah dengan senandung qasîdah Burdah.
